A popular Nigerian online doctor, Dr. Chinonso Egemba professionally known as Aproko Doctor has triggered massive reactions when he revealed that Suya can cause cancer.
According to wikipedia, Suya or tsire is traditional smoked spiced meat skewer which originates from Northern Nigeria, Hausa Land and is a popular food item across West Africa. Suya is a big part of Hausa culture and food and is historically prepared and made by Hausa men ‘Mai nama’.
Suya is a Nigerian street food that are mostly sold at night. Many Nigerians loves it as it goes with all sorts of food.

On Monday, May 16th 2022, Aproko doctor shared a video on his social media platform revealing that Suya contains several chemicals that can activate some enzymes in the body which damage the DNA leading to cancer.
He advised people to reduce taking grilled meat and when they need to have the taste, gave some rules to follow while cooking meat.
In his words, “Suya can give you cancer. When you burn meat inside open flames, it creates chemicals known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. These particular compounds may get activated by certain enzymes in your body that ends up damaging your DNA. Damage to this, DNA-cancer. Watch the video below:
