Job Description:
Incumbent performs inspections, installations, preventative maintenance, and emergency repair of unclassified technical security, counterterrorism, and life-safety equipment deployed by Diplomatic Security (DS) at U.S. diplomatic missions overseas. Studies and make recommendations for ways to improve the effectiveness of the security systems at U.S. diplomatic missions in the Engineering Services Office (ESO), Lagos including constituent posts.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on field experience in major repairs and installation of electrical and heavy-duty mechanical equipment, CCTV, public address, AVBCS, reading and interpreting architectural and engineering design drawings is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge and/or experience in installing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical and electronic systems is required; hydraulic and/or pneumatic equipment; in working with different types of steel, concrete and masonry wall construction, anchors and bolts is required. Must be able to use knowledge and skills to rectify problems associated with security equipment independently.
Education Requirements:
- Completion of high school in addition to two (2) years of apprenticeship or an advanced equivalent local level of occupational training as technician, electrician or mechanic is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Ability to talk and relate to U.S. and local personnel from a variety of backgrounds and Mission offices.
- Ability to be firm but tactful when explaining policy or limitations on resources.
- Ability to use special lifting equipment and/or coordination of unskilled laborers. The nature of work may require working from a ladder, in crawl spaces, above ceiling areas and other non-office areas of a building structure.
- Ability to deal with upset or difficult clients while keeping own temper/composure.
- Ability to assure upset/angry clients that their concerns will be addressed while not promising actions/results that are inconsistent with Mission practices.
- Ability to employ a problem-solving approach to difficult issues rather than assigning blame.
- Ability to maintain objectivity in difficult situations.
- Must be available for frequent travel. The position may travel alone or as part of a regional security team.

Working in the Facility Management section of the Embassy, the Carpentry Maintenance Worker carries out scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and repair work on finish and interior assemblies, furnishings and fixtures in all mission buildings and facilities including residential owned and leased properties. Job holder would repair, adjust and install doors, windows, hardware, wall, ceiling and floor coverings, sunshades and blinds; fixed furnishings; painting of various surfaces; and replacement specified glazing products with required installation materials.
Qualification and Requirement:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of building assemblies, furnishings and fixture operations is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Competence in the following is required:
- Maintenance and repair of various building finishes and assembles, components, fixtures and furnishings utilizing carpentry and general building construction skill.
- Ability to set up and operate a wide variety of wood working and metal machines, various types of power and hand held tools that meet accepted trade practices and safety procedures.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic measuring devices and recording instruments.
- Testing procedures in control assembly tolerances, diagnose faults, determine current operating function to the design requirements, all in accordance with US and host country regulations.

Job Description:
The incumbent is assigned to Facility Management and is directly supervised by the Building Engineer for all assigned duties. Job holder carries out preventive maintenance, repair, installation, modification, trouble-shooting, overhaul, testing adjustment and calibration of various diesel generators, automatic transfer switches, fuel tanks, batteries and chargers, transformers and associated mechanical and electrical systems. Incumbent receives written or verbal requests for maintenance services and ascertains all of the information to determine whether the work is of a routine or emergency nature. This position is a 48-hour per week worked on a shift schedule.
Qualification and Requirement:
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in generator trouble-shooting, repairing and installation is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of normal, diesel engines, electrical alternators, complete preventive maintenance procedures is required. Must possess job knowledge to include general computer literacy.
Education Requirements:
- Completion of Secondary School or Technical Training College and three (3) years of journey man knowledge in maintenance and repair of standby generator and/or uninterrupted power supply systems is required.
