A final year student of Michael Okpara university of Agriculture, Umudike, has delivered quintuplets.
It was gathered that the young lady, simply identified as Oluomachi Nwoko, welcomed her babies at Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.
The 24-year-old final year student gave birth to three girls and two boys on Tuesday.
Speaking to ABN TV, a nurse on duty said “The female babies came first and she is the first to give birth to quintuplets in the facility in a long time.”
Giving birth to triplets or more vaginally is very rare. It is not recommended because of the higher risk of labour complications and infant mortality.
Since almost all triplets or more will be born prematurely, they will need special care. This may include a stay in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
However, it was reported that the mother and her five babies are in good health condition.
