Stephen Belongia, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Buffalo field office, told reporters that the shooting is being investigated as “both a hate crime and a case of racially motivated violent extremism”.
President Biden reacting to the incident called for a thorough investigation of the shooting and said that the nation “must do everything in our power to end hate-fueled domestic terrorism.”
Biden said “we don’t need anything else to state a clear moral truth: A racially motivated hate crime is abhorrent to the very fabric of this nation.”
Gendron, as of press time, has been arraigned on a charge of first-degree murder, which carries a sentence of life without parole. He is being held without bail.
