2023: Peter Obi blasts critics, says it is not true that he doesn’t give ‘shi shi’

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has said that it is not true that he runs a campaign where he does not give ‘shi shi’.

Shi Shi is a word in pidgin English that means to give or have nothing, zero.

Recall that since the former Anambra state governor as a presidential candidate, he had been criticised for being a stingy person. While many said it is a bad quality a leader should possess, others claimed it showed he isn’t a corrupt person.

One of his antagonists is Renowned Enugu Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka who said it was better to have an old man as President than a ‘stingy young man’.

But, speaking during an interactive session between him and north-eastern stakeholders in Abuja on Monday, December 5, 2022, the LP flag bearer said he is more concerned about using state money for public good, if elected Nigeria’s next President in 2023.

Obi also dismissed speculations that he has issues with his counterpart at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar.

On the issue of frugality, Obi said: “People say we don’t give people ‘shishi’. It is not true. But I want to use your money for your good. I want to use it to educate your children and give them opportunities.

“I don’t want to steal your money. That’s not what I am doing because it is wrong. Rather, I want to be part of you and your children.

“I want you to understand that I am committed to you. I am committed to the Northeast. I am not going to be your President from Abuja.

“I am going to be your President from the Northeast. There’s no way I will not tour every single state of Nigeria. I’ll be everywhere.”

Meanwhile, Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Babachir Lawal has said that he is surprised he has not being sacked from the party despite his support for Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Recall that the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu’s decision to select former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate, the former SGF had withdrawn his support, insisting that he was against the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket.

peaking at an interactive session between Obi and north-eastern stakeholders in Abuja on Monday, the APC chieftain insisted that it is mandatory for Obi to win the 2023 election considering the present situation in the country.

Lawal revealed that he plans to migrate to Cameron if Obi loses the election.

His words: “I am in APC and a member of the Board of Trustees of the party, but I am doing the Peter Obi/Yusuf Datti movement.

‘”The APC has not sacked me yet. I don’t know what they are waiting for.

“We want (Obi) to win this election and must win this election. If we lose this election, we’ll all migrate to Cameroon because of the shame and disgrace of failure to win. It is not about whether we have options, Peter Obi must win this election.”

Speaking further the APC stalwart said the country is in great need of a change and he is happy that the chosen one is Obi.

He explained that he is not interested in LP as a party rather his focus is on Obi as the presidential candidate, adding that irrespective of the party Obi is in he would still give him his support.

“I am not interested in LP as a party. I am interested in Peter Obi as a potential presidential candidate. It doesn’t matter which party Peter Obi is, I sense that Nigerians are due for change.

“They have been yearning for change; my own opinion is that Nigeria will vote for anybody as long as he is not part of the PDP or APC,” he added.
