Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has given reasons why he is the most qualified to emerge as the next President of Nigeria.

This is as he called on Nigerians to join him and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed in taking over power from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He also claimed that both the APC and PDP candidates, Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar may not have the requirements to perform in office.

The former Anambra State Governor stressed that he and his running mate are physically and mentally fit and are able to withstand the rigours and demands of the office if elected by Nigerians.

Speaking on Saturday at his party’s campaign rally in Osogbo, Osun State, Obi said with the help of Nigerians some sick and unfit persons who want to turn the presidency into a retirement home would be disappointed.

He said though the Labour Party has been mocked for being a party without structure, the structures the major parties claim to have has only resulted in joblessness for the youth, killings, insecurity, intermittent strikes by University lecturers among many other ills, hence it is time to change the narrative.

He said: “Nigerians are hungry, youths have no job, it is not safe to travel anywhere in Nigeria today, all these challenges are caused by those who say they have party structure, but these structures have crippled Nigeria, I want me and you to destroy these structures by voting them out next month.

“We are going to secure and unite Nigeria, we want Nigeria to be proud of being a Nigerian. We will deliver a secured Nigeria. We don’t want Nigerians to be in IDP camp, we don’t want you to be a slave in your own country.

“We are going to govern this country with fear of God. We will give you jobs, we will change Nigeria from consuming country to a producing one.

“These people kept on bragging that they have structures, yet, they are not doing anything. They are not producing anything in this state, youths are unemployed, we will change these challenges.”

We Won’t Embezzle Money

Speaking further, Obi said the parties that claim to have structures have plunged Nigeria into many troubles and the citizens have to vote them out in the February election.

For those who may want to rely on vote buying to rig the election, the Labour Party candidate urged Nigerians not to sell their future but to collect the money of the politicians and vote against them.

He added that he and Datti-Ahmed have never stolen public funds and won’t steal if voted into power because they have businesses of their own already.

In his words, “Those that have structures have stolen our money, we will fight corruption, myself and my Vice, we have our own business that we make money before we come into the government, we have never stole any money from from anyone till date.

“They are going to give you money on Election Day, collect the money and vote them out. We will end the plan to turn Nigerians to beggars because we will make the county work this time.

“Myself and Datti are young and very fit. We can run around for hours to ensure that Nigeria works again. The country at this time need mentally and physically fits leaders to salvage it from present challenges.”
