2023: Tension in PDP as G5 governors hold London meeting to endorse Tinubu over Atiku

Ahead of the 2023 general election, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his G5 governors’ group are disposed to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It was gathered across various media that Wike who is the leader of the G5 was not sure of the ability of the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, to garner sufficient votes across Nigeria.

The speculations are seen as the G-5 jet out of Nigeria for London where they are expected to deliberate on the presidential candidate to support in 2023.

The aggrieved PDP chieftains led by Wike include Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu.

Sources said the River State governor and his colleagues planned to brand his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) presidential flag-bearer, Atiku Abubakar, as a serial defector who cannot be trusted with power by the electorate.

A source divulged that the five aggrieved governors of the PDP dubbed as G5 “have agreed among themselves to support a presidential candidate from the South.”

Should the five governors forge a common front against Atiku in the forthcoming 2023 election, it leaves the former Vice-President with a mountain to climb.

“There is no doubt that he is a popular candidate but if these governors unite against him, it is going to be a difficult election for him.
