Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has denied the bail application of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB Nnamdi Kanu.
The judge held that Kanu must account for his whereabouts for years when he was first granted bail but refused to attend court for trial.
The court disagreed with the defendant that he escaped out of the country when a retinue of armed soldiers allegedly invaded his ancestral home in Abia State.

Recall, the IPOB leader was arrested in June 2021 in Kenya and subsequently extradited to Nigeria over treason charges after escaping from the country since 2017 while on bail.
On April 18, 2022, when President Muhammadu Buhari visited Ebonyi state on two days working visit, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, appealed to the president to release Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra agitators that are in custody of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The president however, replied the southeast leaders that only the court has the right to take the decision.
