BREAKING: Fear grips residents as fire guts houses in Lagos

Residents of Ebute Metta area of Lagos state have been thrown into confusion as fire gutted several buildings in the area.

According to reports, the inferno started just before 9 a.m. of today, Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

The fire broke out in one of the buildings on Ibadan Street off Cemetery Road, and by 10 a.m., it had extended to two other houses.

An eyewitness said; “I called the Lagos Fire Service at about 9:05 a.m. They arrived about 40 minutes later, which was a bit late.

“The crowd and traffic to did not help matters because the police, led by the DPO, had to first make way for them”, the citizen said.

Emergency responders are still on ground but have been able to contain the situation as occupants count their losses.

The incident followed Monday evening’s fire incident on Aladelola Street in the Ikosi Ketu area of Lagos.

Describing the surge in fire incidents as a concern, the Director of the agency, Adeseye Margaret, said, ” 24 fire emergencies were received on Christmas day. This is the highest ever recorded in a given 24 hours. This gives much to be desired”.
