An Ikeja High Court has sentenced the deposed Baale of Shangisha in Magodo area of Lagos Mutiu Ogundare, charged with faking his kidnap to 15-year jail term.
Justice Hakeem Oshodi in his ruling on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, sentenced Ogundare having convicted him of a two-count bordering on breach of peace and fake kidnapping.
Also jailed for the same prison term is his brother, Opeyemi Mohammed.
The court however set his wife Abolanle, free having earlier absolved her of the charges.
Recall, on July 6, 2017, the now convicted Baale of Shangisha, Mutiu Ogundare was reportedly abducted by three men along Center for Management Development (CMD) Road, Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
Ogundare was said to have received a telephone call from supposed developers, who had indicated an interest in a landed property within his domain.
The callers had told the Baale where to meet them, prompting Ogundare to drive to the address with one of his brothers.
However, when Ogundare was rescued, the police hinted that there were some discrepancies found in the reports made by Adams and Ogundare’s spouse.
After investigations, it was concluded that the chief had faked his own kidnap, and was subsequently suspended by the state government.
