A reliable source said that Smith is expected to hand over to Retired Justice Clara Ogunbiyi representing the judiciary at the commission.

Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesman for the commission, also confirmed the resignation to newsmen.

The commission and the Office of the Inspector-General of Police had been at loggerheads over which body has the right to conduct the recruitment into the Force.

The NPF had dismissed an advertisement by PSC calling for applicants to apply as constables in the force.

This was after the NPF had protested against the recruitment process. The PSC later suspended the 2022 recruitment of constables into the force.
