A prominent Nigerian kingmaker, the Alapinni of Oyoland, High Chief, Alh Abdul-Rasheed Shehu is dead.
According to reports, Alapinni of Oyo, who is one of the Oyomesi (the chiefs responsible for choosing the next Alaafin of Oyo) died early Sunday morning, September 18, 2022, after a battle with an undisclosed sickness.
It was gathered that he would be buried according to Islamic rites this afternoon within the family compound.
The Oyo East Local Government has confirmed the passing of the Yoruba kingmaker in a statement by Azeez Ismail Arekemase, Special Adviser on Media & Publicity to the council chairman.
The statement partly reads; “With heavy heart but with total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, the Management and staff of Oyo East Local Government regret to announce the sudden demise of High Chief Alh.Abdul-Rasheed Shehu..the Alapinni of Oyo Land, early this morning Sunday 18th Sept. 2022.
“Burial arrangement will come up at his residence today at 4:00 p.m. May Almighty Allah grant him aljanna fridaus Amin.”
The late Alapinni of Oyo was said to be the father of Queen Badira, who was married to Late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III after over 50 years on the throne, died at the age of 83 on April 23, 2022.
