Professor Yemi Osinbajo who has served as Nigeria’s VP for over 7 years on Monday, declared that he will by vying for the APC presidential ticket in 2023. His declaration has unsettled the APC “family” of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who believes the VP should not have gone against his leader’s ambition.
Tinubu who called a meeting with the APC governors on Monday, few hours after they had met with the VP, stated that he met the governors to collaborate on his 2023 ambition.
Reacting to the Vice-President’s declaration, Tinubu reacted to the question of a journalist who asked his opinion since Prof. Osinbajo is his “Son”.
In a swift response by the APC leader, he said: “I don’t have any son grown up enough to make such declaration”
“My mission here is to seek collaboration, support, and encouragement of my party, the APC, for my ambition to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a replacement for President Muhammadu Buhari after his tenure,” he added.
The Kebbi State Governor and the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Atiku Bagudu, also refuted claims that Osinbajo’s declaration pits him with his political godson.
According to him, the development shows the quality of persons in the ruling APC.
“The fact that we have people in our party that express desire to lead the party into the highest office in electoral contest shows how much this our party has resonated with Nigerians and our party members,” the governor said.
