Although it was stated by many that regardless of the certificate you hold, job is not guaranteed in Nigeria. However, many argued that there are many differences between the HND and BSc certificates with BSc being the better qualification.
@Oluakins, a Nigerian tweep said that altough the Senate has ended the dichotomy, companies, research bodies and institution of advanced learning knows the difference. In his words, he said: “They can pass the bill all they like. Companies, research bodies and institutions of advanced learning know the difference.

@ideoyo wrote, As a Poly graduate, my advice to those seeking admission is never ever consider going to a Polytechnic. It’s better you wait for admission or start pre degree in any university. A 3rd class uni graduate has more levels than a distinction poly graduate in Nigeria.
@MallamFeliks wrote, The Bill is not enough…it’s either you phase out HND and commute it with BTech or BEng where appropriate. The fact that one is called Bachelor of Science vs Higher National Diploma makes all the difference. Why not upgrade the Polys to teaching universities for a start?
While many argued that Bachelor’s Degree is an internationally recognized certificate that can only be attained in Universities and not Polytechnic, a Nigerian tweep have defended the HND certificate.
According to him, Nigerians are the ones fighting themselves as there are Unievrsities in UK, USA and Canada that accepts the HND certificate for a Masters Degree program.
He (@UBassahuwa) wrote, “it is obvious that a lot of us don’t even know what is obtainable in other countries, there are schools in UK, Us, Canada, China and Austria that accepts HND for Masters degree program, is our system better than theirs? It’s a shame that we are the ones fighting our selves.”
