Buhari jets out of Nigeria over the death of UAE King

President Muhammadu Buhari will be departing Abuja, today, May 18, 2022, for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over the death of Abu Dhabi’s king.

This is according to a statement issued by to the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

The Abu Dhabi king, who doubled as the United Arab Emirates President, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan died, on Friday May 13, 2022.

Following the president’s demise, the UAE authourity announced 40 days of mourning with flags at half-mast from Friday, with work suspended in the public and private sector for the first three days.

It subsequently announced Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the brother of the late President as the third president of the UAE and 17th Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

Garba Shehu’s statement reads; “The President, in an earlier congratulatory message to the new UAE leader, had reaffirmed Nigeria’s cordial relationship with the country, noting that the cooperation between both governments has helped Nigeria in tracking down illegal assets and tracing terrorist funds.
