Controversy as NECO boss’ wife, son gives contradicting reports on cause of Obioma’s death

There has been a controversy over the cause of the death of the Registrar of National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Godswill Obioma after his wife and son gave different reports.

Professor Gosdwill Obioma was reported by his wife to have been assassinated in his Minna residence on Monday was said to have died of heart attack by his son, Prince Godswill Obioma.

Professor Obioma’s wife, Elizabeth Obioma, earlier told People’s Gazette that her husband was assassinated by hoodlums during the early hours of Monday.

Their son, on other hand, in an official statement sent to NECO, said his father passed away after a brief sickness.

His statement reads:

“Dear Sir, this is to formally inform you that my father Prof. Godswill Obioma, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO passed to eternal glory yesterday 31/5/2021 after a brief illness.

“We request that you kindly notify the Board, Management and the entire staff of the Council of this development.

“We shall keep you duly informed.

“Prince Godswill Obioma the 2nd, for the family.” [END]

The National Examinations Council (NECO) confirmed the death of Professor Obioma in a statement by Mustapha K. Abdul, Director Human Resource Management.

According to him, the late NECO boss slumped in his bedroom in Minna and was rushed to the National Hospital. Abuja where he eventually died.

He said: “The truth of the story is that the man slumped in his Minna bedroom, rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja where he eventually died.”

These conflicting reports have further arouse suspicions in different quarters as many believe there is more than meet the eye in the matter.
