Former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has been given a new appointment in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) days after making President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ministerial list.
Wike along with former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom; former Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; and former governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and others were included in the Bayelsa campaign council list of the People’s Democratic Party.
This was according to a statement signed by the National Public Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Monday, July 31, 2023.
The National Working Committee of the party released the membership of the Bayelsa State National Campaign Council for the upcoming election in the state.
Governor Douye Diri is the PDP candidate in the governorship election which will be held on November 11, 2023.
The inclusion of Wike who was screened as Tinubu’s minister on Monday has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians. Many claimed PDP are now an appendage of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as it cannot expel Wike for accepting nomination from President Tinubu who is a member of APC.
While others said his nomination doesn’t affect his commitment to the party going by the fact that if he was eventually confirmed as a minister, he will not be a minister for PDP or APC but for the entire citizen of Nigeria.
Wike made the ministerial list for his role played during the 2023 election where Tinubu defeated Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and others.
