Miss Bello Barakat, an ND 1 Student of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology in the Federal College of Animal Health and Production (Moor Plantation) in the oyo state capital was found dead on Monday, the 1st of June, 2020 after she was gang raped and stabbed at the backyard of her place of residence.
This unfortunate incident has generated reactions from different individuals and organisations which includes National association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), among others.
The Chairman, Parliamentary Council of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Honourable representing Akinyele 1 constituency, Mr. Ayotunde Fatokun while speaking with newsmen on Friday in Ibadan also commiserate with the family and assure that Oyo State House of Assembly is set to review existing laws on sexual violence and input stricter punishment.
Honourable Fatokun stated that it was imperative for people to support government by exposing evil doers and criminals in their community to law enforcement agencies.
Worrisomely, the Oyo state Government is yet to give this pathetic issue any attention. As at press time, No official statement has being credited to Governor Seyi Makinde on the incident of Bello Barakat’s death.
In fact, all the social media handle of the Governor is yet to have any reaction on the case. It is even uncertain whether the governor is aware of the incidence happening.
Available through the Twitter handle of the Governor @seyiamakinde, the Governor today inaugurated the board of the Nigerian Marble Mining Company Limited.
Mr seyi said “We inaugurated the board of the Nigerian Marble Mining Company Limited, Igbeti. While congratulating the new board members, I urged them to work towards bringing in investment in the mining sector so that it can contribute towards the expansion of the economy of Oyo State.”
