Amaka Igwe, Late Veteran Nollywood Filmmaker, has been honored with Google Doodle on her 57th Posthumous Birthday.
Google Doodle is a unique, temporary change of the logo on Google’s homepages intended to celebrate holidays, activities, milestones and notable historical figures.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the doodle went live on Thursday to honor late Igwe’s contributions to Nollywood.
WHO IS AMAKA IGWE?
Amaka Igwe was a Nigerian filmmaker and broadcaster. Igwe was the owner of Top Radio 90.9 Lagos and Amak Igwe Studios.
Igwe studied Education / Religion at Obafemi Awolowo University before gaining a Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences at the University of Ibadan.
Amaka Igwe was born to Isaac and Patience Ene on 2 January 1963 in Port-Harcourt. She met her husband, Charles Igwe, in September 1992. They got married in April 1993 and had three children.
In 1994, Igwe produced her first TV series script, “Checkmate,” which is probably still the best Nigerian soap opera of the 1990s. Amaka Igwe fought to bring Nigeria’s film industry on the world map by leading delegations to South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, and France.
She was also involved in many movie series (Fuji House of Commotion, Solitaire, Now We Are Married, etc), and Filmography (Rattle Snake, Violated, To Live Again, Full Circle, etc)
Igwe died after an asthmatic attack in the state of Enugu on 28 April 2014. At the moment, the director was working on the pre-production planning of a new Igbo soap.
