Gov. Seyi Makinde has seen the death of three kings, Nigerians react to death of Alaafin

Following the death of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III late Friday night, Nigerians have taken to their social media handles to react to the death of the Oyo monarch.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi died at the age of 83 after being the king for 52 years. His reign was the longest reign of a serving king in the entire history of the Oyo Kingdom.

His death threw the entire Oyo town and Oyo State generally into mourning as crowd gathered at the palace to commiserate the King’s death.

The Alaafin of Oyo’s death is the third of its kind to happen in Oyo State within a short period of 4 months. The Soun of Ogbmoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III died in December 2021, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji died in January 2022 and now the death of Alaafin.

The concurrent deaths of these first class Oyo Kings has generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians on social media. In some reactions monitored by Intel Region, some Nigerians noted that death of all the Kings happened under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.

“Seyi Makinde has seen the dead of 3 strong Kings in Oyo state,” a twitter user named Ifedayo reacted.

He further stated; “A clean slate for him to install new kings! Soun of Ogbomoso Olubadan of Ibadan Alaafin of Oyo”

His comment sparked reactions with some others noting that two of his predecessors also died during his reign as governor of Oyo State.

“You didn’t forgot to mention that It has also witnessed the demise of 2 strong former governors and opposition leaders Abiola Ajimobi Alao Akala We pray they don’t make it 3/3,” a user named Arewa Ajilete commented under Ifedayo’s tweet.

Another user commented that they should not attempt to interpret the concurrent death as it is natural for people to die at any time that God wills it.

“It is mere happenstance my sister. Death can come anytime. Let’s stop this unhealthy narrative,” a user named Timi Kolade replied Arewa’s comment.

Several other users commented about the Oyo Kings death, a user referred to the Governor as being a fortuitous person.

“Seyi Makinde happens to be one of the most fortuitous governors. He installed Olubadan of Ibadan. He will be installing soun of Ogbomosho. He will get to install Alaafin of Oyo,” the user wrote.

“Seyi Makinde will become the first governor of oyo state to install three first class kings in oyo state,” a user named Oyebanji Kareem wrote.
