Supporters of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, have grounded traffic activities in Lekki, as they defied court orders and campaigned at Lekki toll-gate.
The ‘Obidients’ as they are fondly called, gathered on Saturday morning at the toll-gate despite heavy police presence on the ground.
Recall the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the Labour Party and its supporters not to converge at the Lekki toll gate for its #Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally billed to hold on the 1st of October, 2020.
The court also directed the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State Police Commissioner to ensure compliance with the order.
Justice Daniel Osiagor made these orders today, Wednesday, 28, 2022, while ruling on a motion for injunction brought by 10 plaintiffs, who are asking the court to, among others, restrain the LP, its presidential candidate Peter Obi, his vice Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, one Julius Abure and their loyalists from holding the rally.
It was gathered that private and commercial bus drivers were finding alternative routes out of the traffic on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, as the traffic was almost at a standstill.
Speaking with a commercial driver, who opted for all his passengers to get another bus, he said, “Obidient people are campaigning at the toll gate, I have been in this traffic for too long, I’m going to turn back at Jakande roundabout. I wouldn’t be heading to Lekki Phase 1 again.”
