Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Raka village of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State and burnt down many houses and food items before they made away with an undisclosed number of domestic animals.
According to reports, the armed men killed also killed a 120-year-old woman and five other community members.
When contacted on phone, the district head of the area, Alhaji Sa’idu Wakili confirmed the attack, saying that although no one was kidnapped, the bandits burnt down two-thirds of the houses and food items and also rustled cattle.

He urged the federal and state governments to intensify more efforts toward solving the security challenges in the area.
The district head also called on wealthy individuals in the axis to formulate formidable means of protecting the lives and properties of the people in the area.
The acting chairman of Tangaza Local Government Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Lawal Junju, accompanied by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Roads Maintenance, Engr. Mai Damma Tangaza visited the community and commiserated with the villagers and also promised to forward his findings to the government for necessary assistance to the victims.
Meanwhile, they have been no official statements from either the state government or security agencies at the time of filing this report.
The incident comes a day after gunmen suspected to be hired assassins reportedly killed the Labour Party candidate for Onuimo Local Government Area in the Imo State House of Assembly, Christopher Elehu.

Apart from killing him, the gunmen also set his country home ablaze and destroyed his property including a motorcycle.
It was gathered that the gunmen, who were on rampage, also visited the houses of other politicians in the area but met their absences.
A source who doesn’t want to be mentioned said, “They have killed Christopher Elehu, popularly known as Wasco. Until his death he was the Labour Party candidate in Onuimo Local Government Area. They invaded his house when everybody had gone to sleep and shot for over two hours.
They killed the man and burnt his house. They also destroyed his property. His corpse was laying on the floor with matchet cuts when villagers gathered in the morning.”
The killing of the politician came just ten days after the LP candidate in a sister LGA, Okigwe, Chukwunonye Irouno, died suddenly.
Irouno who was bid to achor LP’s presidential campaign rally in the state slumped a night to the occasion. He was rushed to Federal Medical Center in Owerri where he was pronounced dead.
The police in the state had yet to issue statements concerning the murder incident.
