Some armed hoodlums have attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Owerri, Imo State
The attack, which occurred on Monday morning, September 12, 2022, led to the death of at least three suspects.
The gunmen, who invaded the facility in large numbers, were reportedly repelled by officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other security operatives in the area.
According to sources, three of the hoodlums were killed, while one of them was captured alive.
When contacted, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Michael Abattam, promised to revert.
INEC offices in various parts of the country as being under attack in recent days which had led to the lost of many sensitive electoral materials ahead of the 2023 elections.
On December 4, 2022, Hoodlums burnt down another office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo state.
The attack affected the Conference Room where office furniture and fittings were destroyed, adding that critical facilities were unaffected.
“Overall, this is the 7th attack on our facilities in five States of the Federation in the last four months,” a statement released by the commission after the incident said.
