Abia state governor Alex Otti has met President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The governor was among his counterparts who had a meeting with the president on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
This is the first time Otti who became the Abia governor under the Labour Party will be meeting the president in public.
Otti emerged as governor having polled a total of 172,386 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Ahiwe, who garnered a total of 88,174 votes in the gubernatorial election held in March 2023.
Otti is the only governor Labour Party was able to produce after the election. However, the party has six Senate and 34 House of Representatives after the 2023 general election.
His meeting with President Tinubu has, however, received mixed reactions. Many said he ought not to have attended the meeting knowing fully well that his party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi wasn’t satisfied with Tinubu as the country’s leader.
While others said should Otti avoid meeting Tinubu who is a democratically elected president, that means is indirectly depriving the residents of his state dividends of democracy.
Obi, alongside Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently in court contesting the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Presidential Election and Nigeria’s President-elect on March 1, 2023.
They both refused to congratulate Tinubu as the country’s 15th president. Obi, who received surprising support before the election had vowed never to back down until ‘claimed his mandate’
