JUST IN: DSS attack made Sunday Igboho sick, grant him medical bail – Lawyer appeals to Benin Republic

The Lawyer to the embattled Yoruba Nation agitator and activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has appealed that the Benin Republic Court should grant Sunday Igboho bail on the basis that he suffered injuries during the raid on his house by the Nigeria’s Secret Service.

Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) conducted a raid on Sunday Igboho’s Soka residence in Ibadan, Oyo State on Thursday, July 1, 2021.

According to the DSS, the raid was based on intelligence that he had stockpiled arms in the place. On approach to the residence, the DSS reported that “the team came under heavy gun attack by nine (9) men, suspected to be IGBOHO’s guards. Six (6) of them were armed with AK-47 gun and Three (3) others, with Pump-Action riffles.”

Sunday Igboho however managed to escape during the gun battle between the DSS operatives and “Igboho’s men”.

The DSS subsequently declared him wanted before he was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Speaking on Sunday Igboho’s case, Ibrahim Salami, Benin Republic-based counsel stated that the Yoruba rights activist needs to be granted bail to treat himself.

He said: “I urge his family and supporters to be patient and prayerful. They should support him with prayers. When they attacked his house in Nigeria, he jumped from the top of a building. His ribs were hurt. He was severely injured.

“In fact, he could not stand before the judge. He sat to address the judge. He needs freedom for medical attention. Those of us that are his lawyers are making a stringent effort.”
