Senato Ibrahim Shekarau, a former Kano State Governor and Senator representing Kano Central, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Kwankwanso led New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
His defection was confirmed in tweet by a former Honorable member and campaign director of Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Abdulmumin Jibrin yesterday.
Senator Shekarau had fallen out of favour in the APC after a court ruling upheld the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Several members including Hon. Abdulmum Jibrin has dumped the APC to join Senator Ibrahim Kwankwaso in NNPP.
There had been some back and forth about Shekarau’s planned defection to the NNPP, with some power brokers in the APC said to be negotiating with the former governor not to leave the ruling party.
However, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has been at the forefront, working to ensure Shekarau’s defection from the APC to the NNPP.
On Sunday, Kwankwaso stormed the residence of Shekarau in Kano to work out details of the defection, photos of their meeting went viral on social media.
Confirming the former governor’s defection, the NNPP through their twitter handle wrote;

“His Excellency Engr Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso paid a congratulatory visit today to former Gov (Sen) Ibrahim Shekarau after he decamped to NNPP.”
Abdulmumin Jibrin also wrote; “BREAKING – Sen Ibrahim Shekarau joins NNPP.”
