An irate mob has allegedly burned a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Wammako Local Government Area of Sokoto state.
According to reports, the victim identified only as Deborah, was accused of passing unflattering comments about Prophet Mohammed on campus.
A student who witnessed the incident stated that following immediate threats to her safety, she was immediately evacuated to the security post of the school. However, the mob pursued her to the security post and overpowered the personnel there.
The witness’ information has not been independently verified, but a video has already circulated online showing how the student was set alight.
When contacted, Sokoto police spokesman Sanusi Abubakar declined comments about the incident.
However, as at press time, authorities have issued a statement announcing immediate closure of the school over the fracas that broke out following Deborah’s death.

The statement reads: “Following today’s early morning students rampage in the College, the College Management has resolved to close down the College indefinitely with immediate effect.
“Consequently, all students are hereby directed to vacate the College campus immediately (12th May, 2022),” the statement said.
