The minister who announced his interest at an event in Abuja on Friday, May 6, 2022 said he has the key to unlock its own prosperity, asking his party and the electorate to elect him as Nigeria’s “Chief Servant”.
According to him, he deliberately delayed his announcement to allow Nigerians return from the festivities considering the importance of his ambition.
With this development, Onu is now the fifth person in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet to declare for president. Others include: Some other presidential aspirants in the race include; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; and Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba.
Other aspirants for APC presidential ticket include: Ex-Lagos Governor Bola Tinubu; Ebonyi Governor, Dave Umahi; Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello; Cross River state, Governor; Ben Ayade; Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; Jigawa State Governor, Muhammad Badaru; Senators Rochas Okorocha and Ibikunle Amosun.
Onu statement reads in part: “This key is a knowledge economy driven by science, technology and innovation. This is so, because no nation has ever become truly great, whether in ancient or modern times, without the efficient and effective deployment of science, technology and innovation to nation building.

“I am convinced that I have the knowledge, the experience, the credibility, the education having been trained in one of the best universities in the world, the vision, the integrity, maturity and a man who can be trusted. I most respectfully ask my political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to elect me as its Presidential Candidate, and the people of Nigeria to elect me as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for me to be the chief servant of the nation”, he declared.
While more members of the ruling APC are expected to join the presidential race amidst rumour that the ticket will be zoned to the south, the party’s sales of forms deadline is slated for May 10 and its presidential primary election will hold between May 30 to June 1, 2022.
