Kano governor Ganduje dissolves cabinet one week to handover

Kano state governor Abdullahi Ganduje has ordered all Public Officers holding political appointments to hand over affairs of their offices in line with established procedure.

The directive was contained in a statement titled: “Handover of Activities” from the office of the Secretary to the State Government and signed by the permanent secretary, Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota on Monday, May 22, 2023.

The governor directed all commissioners, special advisers, and chief executives of parastatals, including government owned-companies and other political appointees, to hand over to the permanent secretaries and directors of administration and general services in their respective establishments.

The governor directed that all government properties with the appointees be handed over to permanent secretaries or directors of administration and general services and directors of personnel management, as the case may be latest, by May 26.

The governor also directed them to make copies of their handover notes to the office of the secretary to the state government.

In another development, Governor Yahaya Bello has announced the reinstatement of five key government officials who resigned to contest the APC Kogi governorship ticket.

Ayoade Folashade, secretary to the state government, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

“The Office of the Governor of Kogi, Yahaya Bello, has officially announced the immediate reinstatement of five key officials in the state,” the statement said.

The reinstated officials are Jibrin Momoh (accountant-general), Jamiu Abdulkarim-Asuku (chief of staff to the governor), Yakubu Okala (auditor-general), Idris Asiwaju Asiru (finance commissioner) and Momodu Ozigi-Deedat (commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs).

“The reinstatement of the auditor-general and the commissioners were subject to the scrutiny and confirmation of the House of Assembly before they could resume their duties,” added the statement.

According to Mr Bello’s government, the key officers submitted their resignation letters in March to contest the APC governorship primary.

“Their reinstatement has been carefully considered and approved by Bello,” it stated. “We trust that the reinstatement of these officials will further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the state government in delivering its mandate to the people of Kogi.”
