The leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has urged that the killings in the South-East should stop.
The IPOB leader was quoted as speaking during a visitation to him in the Department of State Services (DSS) custody by his younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu.
Emmanuel said the IPOB leader was “saddened by the reports of killings across the South-East.

“My brother does not believe in bloodshed and felt too bad that bloodsuckers had been on the prowl in the South-East almost unchallenged,” he said.
Kanu was also quoted as saying that all those behind the current killings in the South-East must be held accountable for their atrocities.
Lately, the activities of unknown gunmen in the Southeast have been on the rise. A few weeks ago, unknown gunmen killed military officers heading for their marriage rites in Imo State.

Last week, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Okechukwu Okoye was also beheaded by unknown gunmen.
Barely twenty four hours after, gunmen suspected members of the IPOB allegedly killed a Muslim family of four including a pregnant woman along along Isulo, Orumba South LGA of Anambra state in retaliation of Deborah Samuel who was murdered in Sokoto.

Similarly, one person was said to have been killed at Abatete in the Idemili North local government area of Anambra while another was killed in the Nanka Orumba North local government area.
Angered by this incessant killings, some youths under the aegis of Southeast youths Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), has therefore declared fire for fire against gunmen killing people in the region, especially in Anambra State, where the act is more felt.
They also called on Governor Charles Soludo to immediately form security guards in the communities.
The group statement issued by its President-General Goodluck Ibem, partly reads; “The umbrella body of all the youth groups in the Southeast geopolitical zone condemns in strongest terms the gruesome murder of Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, member representing Aguata 2 state constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly which is Governor Charles Soludo’s constituency.
“There are 7 others among whom are a mother and four of her children killed at Isulo, Orumba North Local Government Area, while the remaining two happened at Abatete in Idemili North. Another man was killed at Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

“We will no longer fold our arms and complain about the insecurity that has been brought to our doorsteps.
“Now is the time for all stakeholders, businessmen and women, youths, traditional rulers, and all those who have the interest of their home at heart to rise up and defend their homes and communities.
“We call on Governor Charles Soludo to immediately form “Anambra Youth Security Guard (AYSG)” and ensure that the security outfit is fully funded to secure and protect their communities.
“We want Governor Soludo to know that a war has been declared on him and his people and he has to remove his suit and tie to fight to defeat these hoodlums who have vowed to make his state ungovernable,” the group said.
