JUST IN: Nigerian police arrest #EndSARS campaigner DJ Switch in Lagos

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) Lagos State Command has arrested popular DJ Obianuju Catherine Udeh aka DJ Switch for allegedly assaulting police officers.

According to reports, DJ Switch went to the police station in Elemoro in Ajah on Monday night, 15th of April to complain about the man he was pointing at who had played ‘chandum’.

The police then arrested the man and locked him up that day and he is still in police custody since his arrest.

But the police later called DJ Switch back on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, to ask her what she wanted to do to the man he is accusing, to be taken to court, or to be released on bail as he should not be arrested more than two nights.

DJ Switch then said that all she wanted was for the man to apologize and post it on social media, but the man refused, which is why the police decided to take the man to court because there was no agreement. between the two.

The report explained that as the police wanted to take the person, DJ Switch was pointing out of her car and used her car to block the way the police wanted to pass and ‘attacked a policewoman’.

This was confirmed by the spokesman for the Lagos Police, Benjamin Hundeyin to BBC on Thursday.

He said he was arrested because he prevented the police from doing their job.

In his words; ‘I really want to say that DJ Switch has been arrested’.

“He was arrested at the police station because he prevented the police from doing their job.” said Hundeyin.

DJ Switch is a famous person who raised his voice during the EndSars protest, and he was at #LekkiTollGate on the night of October, 2020 when Nigerian soldiers attacked the protestors there.

But since that night, no one knows where he is until now.

Meanwhile, DJ Switch has denied being arrested by the police in Nigeria.

In a post made on her X handle on Thursday, she said; “Good morning all. I was woken up by a barrage of calls and text this morning. I wondered why because I know today is not my birthday. Only to find that I, have been arrested 🫤.

“One of the links that was sent to me alleged that I had assaulted the police. Now, while I am not a fan of many of our police men and women, I do not condone nor do I support violence against the police.

“Our blogs have such an unhealthy appetite for traffic that they can’t even spend the transport fare it would cost them to go investigate and make certain of the news they share to the public. These false reporting is dangerous and negatively shapes narratives.

“Many people want so badly to believe I am just like those I’ve fought against or believing that I have sacrificed all I have ever worked for just to bring down Nigeria. This is false.

“That being said, my lawyers have screenshotted every blog they can find this false news and this is defamation of my character. These blogs have till end of day to take down this false news and kindly replace with a post correcting their mistake. I am not looking for cheap publicity, I hate clout chasing and I actually am not an ass because I was advised to sue immediately which would cost them all a lot. So please do the needful and let us learn.Thank you!”
