Nigerians call for Kuda Bank’s boycott over alleged harassment of customer by bank sponsored policemen (Video)

Some disappointed Nigerians have called for the boycott of Kuda Bank over allegations of harassment on one of their customers using police officers.

Kuda Bank was called out by one Jamotech on twitter yesterday for organizing the arrest of his brother using the bank as a bait for police officers to secure his arrest. According to Jamotech, his brother known as Abdulquddus transfered a sum of N577,491 from his Moniepoint POS to his own Kuda account on Apr 13, 2022 only for the bank to lock his account.

In his story, Abdulquddus had N1.2million in the account when it was locked. His brother however decided to visit the bank in Lagos to lay a complaint only for the bank to call on Mobile Policemen (MOPOL) to arrest him.

Sharing a video of what ensued during the arrest of Abdulquddus, Jamotech opined that the policemen harassed and brutalized him at the Yaba branch of Kuda Bank. Watch the video below:

Reacting to the incident, some disappointed Nigerians on social called for the outright boycott of the young Nigerian bank. In some of the comments seen, Kuda bank was referred to as the official snitching bank of the EFCC.

“D Official snitching bank to d efcc. They literally lured my friend 2 their HO by restricting his acc & in a bid to rectify it they offered him a seat & refreshments called efcc on him. He was whisked away & He ended up losing 80% of his assets to this just bcos he’s into crypto,” Jekkyl and Hyle wrote on twitter.

Some others referred to the bank as petty petty money bank, claiming that the bank should only be used to receive small money or not used at all. Many others showed their frustration at the bank after seeing the video by calling for their boycott.

In Kuda Bank’s reaction, they emphasise they do not condone or support violence in any manner “particularly against their customers” but will always comply with the mandates of law enforcement agencies in the country.

According to bank, the customer (Abdulquddus) failed to cooperate with the policemen prompting the issue of harassment to occur within the bank premises as seen in the video shared by his brother. Read the full statement below:


“It has come to our attention that a couple of videos are being circulated online regarding the experience of one of our customers yesterday. The videos show the customer being forcefully escorted off our premises by members of the Nigerian Police Force. We wish to unequivocally state that Kuda Microfinance Bank Limited (“Kuda MFB”) does not condone or support violence in any manner, particularly against its own customers.

“Kuda MFB takes pride in providing a smooth, enjoyable and convenient customer service experience, both online and within the customer service centre which we have created solely to enable our customers to interface with our customer service team to deal with matters relating to their bank accounts.

“Having said the foregoing, as a financial institution licenced by the Central Bank of Nigeria, we have an obligation to comply with the mandates of all applicable government and law enforcement agencies, supported by the appropriate documentation.

“While complying with such mandates, we liaise with the affected customers so that any pending matters between the customers and the agencies are resolved. It is also expected that such affected customers will cooperate fully with the law enforcement agencies involved in order to reach a resolution on each matter. It is truly unfortunate that the customer’s failure to cooperate with the law enforcement officers unfolded in the manner that it did, particularly as the customer was being apprehended by the members of the Nigerian Police Force further to their investigation into alleged criminal activity on the customer’s account.

“We wish to reiterate that no staff of the Kuda MFB was involved in the unfortunate incident that was captured in the video. We have however commenced our internal investigations into this matter and in due time, will liaise with the customer as well as the relevant law enforcement agencies in order to ensure that this matter is adequately addressed.

“We are committed to providing a safe environment for our staff and continue to maintain our responsibility to our customers and the public, to provide safe and secure banking services.
