Oyo Govt dissociates Oyo Amotekun from indecent dressing rules, states scope of duties

Amidst negative reactions from Nigerians on the comment made by the Osun Command of the Western Nigeria Security Network on indecent dressing and poor Yoruba speaking, the Oyo government has dissociated the Amotekun corp of Oyo state from the claims.

Earlier today, the Osun Command of the Western Nigeria Security Network(Amotekun) stated that it had banned indecent dressing and poor usage of Yoruba language in the state.

This development brought mixed reactions from Nigerians as they kicked against the rules established by the state security outfit.

However, a Twitter user @Riiquequeen questioned the Oyo state government demanding to know the the outlined duties of the Amotekun corp, she said “What exactly is the briefs and scope of duties for the Amotekun?”

The Oyo state government however replied using official feedback account of the state government stating that the Amotekun who issued rules are not of Oyo State and that of Oyo state has their outlined primary function.

The reply reads, Thank you for contacting us. Please note the Amotekun referred to there is not for Oyo State. Regarding their scope of duties, Gov

outlined the primary function of Amotekun here seyimakinde.com/speeches/speec. We’ve requested for the Amotekun Act which states their duties.”

It further stated that even though the Amotekun corp is a South West Security Network, each of the commands works under the directive of their state government and one of the reasons the governor stand to be responsible for all the conducts of the Amotekun in Oyo State.

It reads, Hello, even though it is a regional security outfit, each state government has control over the Amotekun corps in their state. This is why Governor

told Oyo State residents to hold him personally responsible for the actions of the Amotekun corps in the state.”
