The governor of Osun State, Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola has asked has all political appointees contesting the 2023 general election to resign their appointments.
The governor stated this in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Oluwole Oyebamiji on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the affected appointees are to comply with the directives with immediate effect.
The governor stated that he has done this in accordance with the provision of the law.
The statement reads: “Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the Executive Governor of Osun State has directed ALL Political Appointees in the state with interest to contest the 2023 General Elections to resign their appointments with immediate effect.
“This is sequel to the Executive Council meeting of Wednesday 13th April 2022 and the combined effect of Sections 84 (12) and 29(1) of the Electoral Acts 2022 as well as the Electoral timetable released by the Independent National
“Notice is hereby given to ALL Political Appointees in Osun State to comply with the directive of Mr. Governor and the provision of the Law.” The statement said.
The governor whose first term tenure will end in November 2022, is looking forward to running the affairs of the state for another four years. Osun gubernatorial election is slated for July 16, 2022.
