BREAKING: Shaibu emerges winner of PDP parallel governorship primaries in Edo (Video)

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has emerged winner of the parallel primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.

Shaibu on Thursday won the parallel primaries with over three hundred and one votes to defeat other aspirants.

However, another primary election backed by Governor Godwin Obaseki is yet to begin at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

In anticipation of the event, authorities have put stringent security protocols in place to ensure a smooth and secure process.

As of Thursday morning, restrictions were imposed on vehicular access to the stadium road, with the Edo State Traffic Management Authority conducting thorough inspections of vehicles seeking entrance.

This move is part of a broader strategy to maintain order and prevent unauthorized access during the critical electoral event.

Policemen have been strategically deployed along the road leading to the stadium, with additional personnel stationed at the entrance.

Their primary mandate is to vet individuals attempting to enter the venue, ensuring that only authorized persons with legitimate business related to the primary election are granted access.

10 aspirants would lock horns for the governorship ticket of the ruling PDP in Edo State today.

The 10 aspirants cleared to contest the governorship primary are Hon. Omosede Igbinedion; former chairman Edo State APC, Anselem Ojezua; former chairperson of Esan West Local Government Area, Felix Akhabue; Felix Akhabue, former managing director of Sterling Bank, Dr Asue Ighodalo; Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu; Arthur Esene, former House of Representatives member, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama; Amb. Martin Uhumoibi, Osaro Onaiwu and Umoru Hadizat.

No fewer than 576 delegates were expected to decide the fate of the 10 aspirants at the primaries holding at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

The exercise will be conducted by an electoral committee chaired by Zamfara State GoveLawal, Dauda Lawal with Governor Sheriff Oborevwhori of Delta as co-chairman. Other members of the committee are Senator James Manager (secretary), Senator Bayero Nafada, Mrs Nella Rabana, SAN, Hadiza Mustapha and Chief Felix Hyatt.
