There was mild tension in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital as men of Nigerian police allegedly dispersed supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi who were holding a rally with teargas.
According to reports, Peter Obi supporters on Saturday morning, September 17, 2022, gathered for their one-million-man march in the state capital.
However, the supporters while about to take off at the People’s Club area were allegedly attacked by some thugs for another party in the State.
A source hinted that this made the police threw teargas canisters, and disperse the rally.
In a trending video, the youths could be seen running in different directions, with smoke from the teargas billowing.
However, it was gathered that the supporters have regrouped at the Mile 50 area of the State to continue with the rally.
The state police spokesperson is yet to confirm the incident, nor does the state government as of press time.
