UK set to return fresh £4.2m seized Ibori loot to Nigeria

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Federation, Abubakar Malamu SAN, has revealed that said the Federal Government of Nigeria would soon take possession of the sum of £4.2m that was seized from the associates of a convicted former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori.

This was revealed in a statement by the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations to the Minister, Dr Umar Gwandu, on Monday May 3, 2021.

According to him, the Federal Government of Nigeria has been working tirelessly to ensure the return of looted Nigerian assets kept outside the country’s territorial boundaries.

He stated that Federal Government of Nigeria is already in contact with the Government of the United Kingdom but however noted that he transfer of such seized funds suffers temporary delay due to expected documentation processes.

He said: “Documentations with the banks in different countries often take longer than anticipated. We anticipated two weeks but we are not in control of the banks,

He thereafter explained that the Federal Government is doing everything possible to ensure the process is swift to ensure the quick transfer of the fund.
