Musa’s journey to becoming Nigeria’s most-capped player

Musa made his senior team debut for Nigeria in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar in 2010.

He scored his first goal for the Super Eagles in an international friendly against Kenya in March 2011 and has played at two AFCON tournaments as well as two FIFA World Cups.

Musa scored 16 goals for the national team with him being the first Nigerian to score more than once in a FIFA World Cup match, after scoring twice against Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

He is also Nigeria’s leading scorer in the World Cup, with four goals.

Musa said that only his body or coach Jose Peseiro could stop him from playing for Nigeria.

“All those people that are asking Musa to retire, when Musa was doing good, where were they?” He asked, before continuing, “No matter what, whoever they call, they have to help. I don’t have to listen to anyone, I am the one who owns myself.

“If my body wants me to stop, I stop. I am playing always in my club, I have a good conduct, so why do you want me to retire from the national team?

Musa currently plays for Turkish Süper Lig club Sivasspor.
