Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire has recorded his 5th career relegation after England loses out in UEFA Nations League.
Harry Maguire has been under heavy criticism following his poor form and performance at Manchester United.
But many people do not understand that the Englishman has been performing terribly for a very long time.
Harry Maguire has lost every game he has started this season in three different competitions.
The Englishman now holds the record of the most relegated player in football history, following England’s downgrade to Nations League second tier.
Harry Maguire was relegated with two different clubs in one season and here are five times he was relegated while playing as a centre-back in three different English clubs.
Here is a list of the five times the England no. 5 has suffered relegation:
Sheffield United, 2011/2012
During his time at Sheffield in 2011/2012 season, Maguire was playing as the centre-back which saw them get relegated to League One from the Premier League.
This was Maguire’s first senior season and he played a total of five matches for the side.
Hull City, 2014-15
After a four-year stint with his boyhood club Sheffield, Maguire joined Hull City in 2014-15. He was loaned away to Wigan Athletic after playing in only six matches.
In his absence, Hull City have knocked off the Premier League into the Championship.
Wigan Athletic, 2014-15
In the same season in which Hull City were eliminated from the Premier League, Wigan themselves were relegated from the Championship to League One.
This made Maguire the only English player to get relegated twice in a single season.
Hull City, 2016-17
After his return from the loan at Wigan, Maguire started featuring in the Hull City side more regularly.
He even captained the team in their 4-2 win against Middlesborough. Despite his efforts, Hull City were relegated from the Premier League after the season.
England have been relegated to Tier II of the continental competition following their 1-0 loss to Italy in the UEFA Nations League 2022-23.
The captain of Man United has now been relegated five times in his career. The chances of Maguire making the starting lineup at Man United are also dwindling by the day.
The more effective pairing at the moment is Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.
