Chelsea set a new unwanted record to become the first English club to lose six straight domestic cup finals.

Their latest heartbreak came on Sunday, when Liverpool defeated them after the extra time, extending a dismal run of final defeats.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk scored a spectacular header in the 118th minute to secure the Reds’ 10th Carabao Cup title.

According to Squawka, the Blues have become the first club to lose six domestic finals in a row.

The streak began in 2019 when they lost on penalties to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, which was highlighted by Kepa’s refusal to be substituted before the shootout.

In the following two seasons, they were defeated in the FA Cup finals by Arsenal and Leicester.

As well as another two Carabao Cup finals and an FA Cup final against Liverpool, in which two of them ended in agonizing penalty shootout defeats.

Maurizio Sarri, Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, and Mauricio Pochettino have all contributed to the club’s poor record.

2020: FA Cup Final (lost to Arsenal)

2021: FA Cup Final (lost to Leicester City)

2022: Carabao Cup Final (lost to Liverpool on penalties)

2022: FA Cup Final (lost to Liverpool on penalties)

2024: Carabao Cup Final (lost to Liverpool)

The pressure will be on manager Mauricio Pochettino to turn Chelsea’s cup final woes into silverware for a success-hungry fanbase.

Chelsea desperately needs to find a way to break their domestic curse and taste cup glory again, whether it’s through a tactical change, a mental shift, or simply a bit of luck.
