Ronaldo has a history of philanthropy, having previously paid $83,000 (£69,000) to cover the cost of a child’s brain surgery and given $165,000 (£137,000) towards the funding of a cancer center in his home country of Portugal.

In addition to his ambassadorial roles with Save the Children, UNICEF, and World Vision, the striker donated £1 million to hospitals in Portugal during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
