Karim Benzema missed late penalty cost Real Madrid 1-1 draw to Osasuna, as Barcelona move top of La Liga (Watch)

Real Madrid’s perfect start to the LaLiga Santander season is over after Carlo Ancelotti’s men were held to a 1-1 draw by Osasuna on Sunday.

Karim Benzema missed a late penalty as Real Madrid dropped points for the first time this season when they were held by 10-man Osasuna at the Bernabeu.

The 80th minute saw Real’s winning start to championship defence come to an end when Benzema’s spot-kick struck the crossbar.

Vinicius Junior gave the hosts the lead before Kike Garcia equalised.

As a result of the foul on Benzema that led to the penalty, Osasuna were reduced to 10 men.

Benzema was denied a penalty after Garcia was sent off after a VAR review for a push on the France striker.

Osasuna didn’t let the setback ruin their afternoon and found an equalizer just six minutes after the restart.

Kike got his head onto Unai Garcia’s fantastic cross, with the ball looping over Andriy Lunin and into the back of the net.

It was very nearly 2-1 for the away side minutes later when Moi Gomez made his way down the right.

His cut back pass found Kike again, but his first-time strike whistled just wide of the far post.

It’s a costly result for Real Madrid, who now sit level on 19 points with rivals Barcelona atop the LaLiga standings.
