Messi, who has been named Inter’s captain by manager Gerardo Tata Martino, is set to make his Herons debut against Atlanta United in the next cup match on Wednesday.
He’ll be looking to add to his Inter tally, and you get the impression he’s got another record in mind.
That’s because Messi needs to score 28 more goals in an Inter jersey to become the club’s all-time leading scorer for the third time.
Messi’s compatriot and former Argentina teammate Gonzalo Higuain holds the current record, and he was one of Inter’s marquee signings in September 2020.
The former Real Madrid, Juventus and Chelsea striker hit 29 goals in 70 appearances before retiring last year.
Second on the list is current Inter forward Leonardo Campana, who is the only other player in history to record double figures for David Beckham’s franchise.

Lewis Morgan of Scotland and Rodolfo Pizarro, who took Messi’s place as a designated player, are tied on seven goals.
