Mo Salah equals Cristiano Ronaldo all-time Man United record

Mohamed Salah equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s Premier League goalscoring record as Liverpool thrashed Wolves 4-0 on Sunday.

Strikes from Georginio Wijnaldum, Joel Matip and an own goal from Nelson Semedo ensured it was a comfortable evening for Jurgen Klopp’s side in front of their 2,000 returning fans at Anfield.

Salah netted his 84th Premier League goal in his 131st match to open the scoring for the Reds.

Ronaldo scored 84 Premier League goals in 196 appearances for Manchester United, but Salah was able to reach that tally in 65 fewer games.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who was making his Premier League debut due to Alisson’s hamstring injury, prevented his side from going behind when he tipped Daniel Podence’s chip wide on 17 minutes.

Salah broke the deadlock when he took advantage of an error from Wolves captain and boyhood Liverpool fan Conor Coady.

The England defender opted to chest a long ball down rather than head it, which allowed the Egypt forward to take the ball from him and score from close-range in the 24th minute.

Coady was in the spotlight again at the other end of the pitch when he was awarded a penalty for appearing to be tripped by Sadio Mane just before the break.

However, VAR intervened with Craig Pawson overturning his decision as replays on his pitchside monitor showed there was no contact from Mane.

Coady could have brought Wolves level, however, Fabinho intervened with a last-ditch clearance in the 58th minute.

And just seconds later, Liverpool broke as Jordan Henderson’s pass found Wijnaldum, who expertly curled home from outside the box.

The result was sealed when Matip headed in a Salah cross, before substitute Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had missed Liverpool’s last four games with a calf injury, crossed for Mane to make it 4-0.

Despite initial contact from Mane, Wolves right-back Nelson Semedo was credited with an own goal.
