Raheem Sterling agrees to join Chelsea from Manchester City

Manchester City and England forward Raheem Sterling has agreed personal terms with Chelsea.

A number of clubs overseas have expressed interest in the 27-year-old, who has one year left on his City contract.

City signed Sterling from Liverpool for £49 million in 2015, and he scored 131 goals in 339 games.

Sterling – who has 77 England caps – will become Chelsea’s first major signing since they were taken over by Todd Boehly’s consortium this summer.

The deal is expected to be completed in time for Sterling to join up with the Chelsea squad before they depart for their pre-season tour.

Sterling wants a new challenge and was impressed with Blues manager Thomas Tuchel’s vision and the role outlined to him.

The player was also interested in Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, but Chelsea’s public and private desire to sign him swayed him.

Sterling wants to stay with City, and he has no hard feelings towards Guardiola or the club.

He wants to play a key role at a club competing for all major honours and views this contract as the most important of his career.
