U-20 World Cup: Nigeria’s Flying Eagles beat Italy 2-0 to advance to knockout stage (Video)

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secure a convincing 2-0 victory over Italy, to advance to the knockout stage in the ongoing U-20 World Cup in Argentina on Wednesday. 

Salim Fago Lawal and Jude Sunday’s goals send Nigeria’s Flying Eagles into the U20 World Cup Round of 16 after a thrilling match in Mendoza.

The highly anticipated match began with the young Azzuris dictating play, controlling possession as expected. However, the resilient Flying Eagles held their ground, particularly in defense, adopting a patient approach and waiting for counterattacking opportunities.

The first half concluded without either team breaking the deadlock, but as the game progressed, the Nigerian side began to assert their dominance.

In the second half, the Flying Eagles showcased an even more impressive performance, and their efforts paid off in the 61st minute.

Salim Fago Lawal’s spectacular flying header found the back of the net, granting the two-time finalists the lead.

Despite Italy’s attempts to mount a comeback, the Nigerian backline proved unyielding, frustrating their opponents’ efforts.

The match reached its conclusion with an additional goal in extra time, courtesy of Jude Sunday, further cementing the Flying Eagles’ victory.

As a result, the Flying Eagles have successfully secured their qualification for the round of 16 in the competition, paving the way for their continued pursuit of success.

Nigeria defeated debutants Dominican Republic 2-1 in their first match at the age-grade tournament and go into Wednesday’s clash to defeat Italy to advanced to the round of 16 in Argentina.
