Nigerian footballer Victor Osimhen has made history by equaling the record for the most goals by a Nigerian player in a single UEFA Champions League (UCL) season.

Osimhen, who currently plays for Italian club Napoli, achieved this feat during the 2022-23 UCL season.

Osimhen scored his fifth UCL goal of the season with his sensational header in the Partenopei’s 1-1 draw against AC Milan in the second leg of their quarterfinal clash.

Despite Osimhen’s record-equaling goal, Napoli were eliminated from the Champions League by their Italian rivals and seven-time winners, AC Milan.

Milan entered the game with a goal lead from the first leg at San Siro. Olivier Giroud, who had earlier missed a penalty, doubled the Rossoneri’s lead 43 minutes into the second leg in Naples.

Napoli struggled against Milan’s disciplined defense, with winger Khivcha Kwaratskhelia also missing a crucial penalty in the second half.
